On February 26, 2014, the GPG in partnership with the Rwandan High Commission in Ottawa and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights officially launched Kwibuka20 in Canada.
The Honorable Senator Don Meredith and the Honorable Irwin Cotler participated to this commemoration on behalf of the GPG. Honorable Senator Thanh Hai Ngo and the Honorable Senator Joan Fraser were also present during the commemoration.
Among the Six lessons to remember from the genocide in Rwanda, the Hon. Irwin Cotler mentioned the danger of indifference and the consequences of inaction, as well as the culture of impunity and the cruelty of genocide denial.
One million Rwandans – mostly ethnic Tutsis – were murdered in less than 100 days during the genocide in Rwanda.
